In the 1960's Geoff got his first serious camera, a Pentax single lens reflex, and has been taking pictures ever since. In the early days when we were travelling the cost of film and the problems of carrying it or obtaining it locally led to a limit, on average, of three shots per day. Quite unlike today when electronic cameras allow almost unlimited photos to be taken.

Back then transparencies offered better viewing, as long as you had a projector and a large screen (as we did), but they had a down-side as we discovered. All our early slides were stored under a friend's house (and also took an unsceduled trip to Tehran, but that's another story) and as a result the emulsion was attacked by fungi. A lot of the pictures were totally ruined. So Kaye took on the huge task of digitising all the slides, including repairing the damaged ones where possible. Of course more recently we have switched to using electronic cameras, so now we have all our pictures in digital form. But there are probably some old ones somewhere on our web site with a few blue streaks or overall mottled blue cast due to their fungusy history.

		Fungi Neither plants or animals, but in a kingdom of their own, fungi are a fascinating but easy to overlook form of life. Normally what we see - the fruiting body - is just a small part of the entire organism. The fruiting bodies display a wide range of colours and forms, often very delicate and beautiful.
		Lichens Lichens are "composite" organisms composed of algae or cyanobacteria living together in a relationship with one or more fungi species. A lichen typically has some properties which are not found in its component organisms. Like plants, lichens rely on photosynthesis to produce their food, however they are typically slow-growing, but very widespread, often existing in extreme environments.
		Great Southern The Great Southern is the region of Western Australia along the central part of the south coast. The City of Albany is the main population centre with the town of Denmark about fifty kilometres to the west. Youngs Siding is roughly half way between them. As the name suggests it used to be a stop on the railway line from Albany to Nornalup. The Munda Biddi cycle trail generally follows the path of the now decomissioned rail line.
		Travel Our travels have taken us to many wonderful places. Generally, we have tried to go away for an extended period, often around three months, so we always had to travel cheaply to stretch our finances. This was especially true because of the high cost of air fares to anywhere outside Australia. More recently we have aimed for a little bit more comfort, sometimes successfully, sometimes not, as we still travel independently and avoid up-market hotels and resorts.
		Craftwork Years ago when we lived in New Zealand Kaye bought an Ashford spinning wheel and taught herself to spin. Some years later in Perth she bought a table loom. On the farm the loom got put away in a corner but the move into our new house with a dedicated studio room revived her interest and the result has been towels, teatowels and other items for us and to give away. In addition, for many years Kaye has used her sewing skills to make a lot of our clothes. This collection of pictures currently concentrates on spinning, weaving, sewing and furnishings.
